Strong demand, with IT vacancies in all areas
Despite having been hard hit during the last economic downturn, the IT market has been booming since 2004 and employers are struggling to fill many IT jobs.
Most job vacancies are for sales, service and support personnel,
including developers, architects and administrators. The banking sector is especially active, with high demand for project managers, data center
staff, security personnel, networking support staff, software developers and testers. IT vendors are also busy recruiting, with demand for
sales and pre-sales professionals who can articulate the value of technology to business, as well as post sales implementation professionals, e.g.
project managers, IT specialists and IT support.
Although the technology job market looks to have rebounded, IT professionals
should not forget to upgrade their skills and ensure they remain employable. Employers are not interested in job hoppers and want people with very specific
skills, which can be applied directly and quickly. In greatest demand are effective communication skills, business acumen, leadership qualities, and the
ability to relate to both users and customers.
