Strong growth in finance jobs
Like banking, the finance market in Asia is also growing strongly, as a result of global economic
stability, allied with the increasing attractiveness of Asia as a region to the world's leading banks.
The move by many global investment banks to relocate banking operations and middle office functions to
Singapore, as part of a drive to control costs, has had a similar impact on demand for finance professionals in Singapore, with a big increase in
recruitment activity and finance jobs.
There is particularly strong demand for qualified accountants at all levels within the major banks and especially for equities and
derivatives product controllers. There is also strong demand for accountants specialising in management accounting and regulatory reporting at mid to senior
levels.
As a general trend, banks are not only focusing on candidates' technical accounting knowledge, but are
giving equal emphasis to strong communication and presentation skills, to impart the importance of figures within the business. Really good
interpersonal skills are relatively rare and a carefully targeted approach is crucial to identifying such talent.
