Wood
Mackenzie
When Wood Mackenzie decided to open an office in Singapore in 2005, they were
absolutely starting from scratch. They not only needed help recruiting staff, but also a significant amount of operational and logistical support, to find
premises to operate from, to put in place contracts which complied with the Singaporean requirements for pensions, health plans, holidays, etc, and to
establish pay structures which took account of local taxation.
Tomnay Noble was able to help them with all these issues, as well as
preparing them for the cultural challenges they were likely to face. And, most importantly, we were able to source 13 members of staff to fill roles
including office manager, senior and junior consultants, researchers, petroleum economists and
regional business development executives. We had a 100% success rate in filling all 13 positions within a very tight timeframe.
On the back of this success, which included sourcing people for Singapore
from as far afield as Malaysia and Indonesia, Wood Mackenzie asked us to recruit consultants for their operations in China and Australia, which we also did
successfully.
"In Q1 2005 we took the strategic decision to build our presence in Asia, choosing Singapore to be our regional hub. John Tomnay and his team have
been key to the thusfar successful implementation of our strategy, through helping us find the high quality local recruits that we have required. John and
his team are professional, responsive, flexible and above all highly customer-oriented, which has led to a true partnership to develop between us. In
addition to offering their recruitment expertise, John and his team have been happy to help us develop our broader understanding of the issues associated
with doing business in the region, for which we are very grateful."

Leading UK investment bank
After a strategic re-evaluation, one of the leading UK investment banks
decided to move an entire operations department to Singapore in order to reduce costs. However, they had concerns about the pool of available talent as they
required 12 people, at all levels, from a Vice President to lead the team, supported by two AVPs, to more junior members of staff. They didn't know whether
there were enough trained staff in Singapore to source the skills they required.
The bank asked Tomnay Noble to evaluate the feasibility of the move. Tomnay
Noble researched the universe of potential candidates and identified 200 individuals across the biggest 20 banks with the required skills and experience.
This research gave the bank the confidence to go ahead with the move and we
immediately started interviewing. Having interviewed 110, we drew up a shortlist of 40 for client interview. Of the 40, the client invited 22 back for a
second interview, from which they made offers to 12 individuals, all of whom accepted.
From start to finish the entire recruitment process took just 6 weeks,
leaving the client delighted with the speed and efficiency with which the new department was set up from scratch. |
